This tour is the perfect way to see two masterpieces symbol of Florence. We will start with the Galleria dell’Accademia where David is kept. You will find out about the fascinating yet terrible character of Michelangelo, his personality, manias and family anecdotes. Soon you will learn how the ‘divine’ artist sculpted his works, his unique way of working the stone and his ever-present desire of a challenge!
David is the symbol of Florence, of Renaissance art and of a new way of seeing the world around….it’s amazing if you think that Michelangelo made it when he was only 25!
The Accademia also displays other works by Michelangelo, the so called ‘Prisoners’, that he never completed. You’ll be left speechless by the story behind these unfinished statues looking incredibly modern to our eyes!
After recovering from such an overwhelming beauty, we will proceed to the Duomo Square where I will tell you the story of the long construction of the Duomo (outside visit) and above all, how a 15th century architect managed to build the largest dome in the world without using a single scaffolding! You will also discover why there’s such a huge Baptistery right in front of the Duomo and I’ll make sure that you see the copy of the stunning Gate of Paradise decorating the Baptistery.
